Stand Up for McCain

Recently in Links Category

McCain's analytical and decision-making ability(he's been right on everything, and it's not a mystery why) are core reasons to support him.

Some insight here into the process he used in selecting Sarah Palin as his running mate.

Still need to hear more from her, particularly on military and defense issues, but my confidence is building pretty fast. If McCain is happy with the choice, that counts for a lot in my book.

Update from MEMRI: Islamist Forum Member Suggests Stirring Up Racial Tension in U.S.

A message posted January 20, 2008 on the Islamist forum Al-Hesbah (hosted by NOC4Hosts Inc. in Florida, USA), by a member calling himself Al-Jawfi, suggests stirring up racial tension between African-Americans and whites in the U.S. by spreading inflammatory materials on the Internet. In the discussion thread, other members proposed posting racist materials against African-Americans (such as insulting jokes and pictures) on sites frequented by African-Americans, in order to arouse anger and bitterness in their community. Another suggestion was to post, on white supremacist sites, materials that present African-Americans as a threat to American society.

No way to summarize the article here(it's the weight of the full piece I'm recommending), but it is a must-read and an eye-opener.

CITY-JOURNAL
An Anatomy of Surrender:
Motivated by fear and multiculturalism, too many Westerners are acquiescing to creeping sharia.

Two interesting finds from the Middle East Media Research Institute that should get more attention, illustrating as they do an interesting mindset(tactic?) of the Supreme Leader of Iran on the one hand and that of the nominally elected(from a slate of candidates approved by the Guardian Council) Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on the other.

#2 Ahmadinejad Threatens American Army with Appearance of Mahdi

A number of leading Iranian clerics criticized President Ahmadinejad for declaring that the hands of the Mahdi [the 12th missing savior in the Shi’a religion whose emergence, after 12 centuries of hiding, will bring peace and justice to the world] “are visibly seen in directing the affairs of the state.” He said the American occupiers in Iraq were intent on stealing the oil treasures of the country but they have realized that “a hand will rise and will eliminate the roots of oppression in the world,” a reference to the hand of the Mahdi.
From WSJ.com: The No-Name Generation, By BENJAMIN MANASTER

"The young need old men. They need men who are not ashamed of age, not pathetic imitations of themselves."
-- Peter Ustinov

Once upon a time there was a no-name generation that went about its business and did not call attention to itself. While the Greatest moved offstage and the Boomers ran amuck, it raised and educated families, laying the groundwork for a prosperous future. Overlooked, ignored by those who followed it, and alone among its peers, this generation may soon see one of its members become president.

[John McCain]

Of course, the road will not be smooth. The attack on John McCain's age has only just begun. A mere tittering at present, it will be shouted from rooftops come the fall. In our youth-obsessed society, newness trumps experience. Media central casting gives this older generation a thumbs down, favoring the novel and the different. But Sen. McCain, who will turn 72 in August, still goes about his business with the dogged determination that sustained him through long years in a North Vietnamese prison.

Those of us born in the late 1930s retain only a weak memory of the Great Depression. But we noted well the solemn eyes of our parents and felt, in the marrow of our bones, the values of steadfastness and endurance they embodied.

From my post at The Imus Times:

Comparing Rev. Wright & Imus: Obama’s Hypocrisy Coming Home to Roost

Incredible. Barack Obama is enabling and justifying the words of Reverend Wright with almost exactly the same logic that Wright uses to justify the actions of Osama bin Laden.

Worth reading, even if I do say so myself!  (CASE CLOSED.)

The vice president expressed hope that anti-American sentiment generated by the U.S.-led invasion five years ago this week, was waning—at least in Iraq where the U.S. death toll is nearing 4,000.

"Across this country, the more that Iraqis have gotten to know the Americans—the nature of our intentions and the character of our soldiers—the better they have felt about the United States of America," he said.
